This group of work takes its name from the followers of the Greek philosopher-mathematician Pythagoras in the 5th century, BC. Feared for their secretive practices, the Pythagoreans were exiled from the island of Croton and all their meeting places were burned. Exploring an intersection of music, mathematics, mysticism, and mythology, the collection features a series of burnt geometric structures on reflective bases. A repeating print inspired by the hexagonal tiles of a telescope’s mirror becomes a backdrop of stars, and a bronze cast of a casette contains the charred remains of its original tape.
