VOLUMES at Bemis Center, Omaha, NE, 2026

This 4-month exhibition and performance series at the Bemis Center for Contemporary Art featured collaborations with Mark Guiliana, George Burton, Dana Murray, Kendall Wooden, and Phill Smith. Each month, a different musician was invited to activate the installation, experimenting with the interaction of sound, light, and space. The performances were recorded and played back on a loop within the installation during regular gallery hours. With each activation, a new recording was added to the rotation, accumulating a collection of audio-visual interactions that grew and evolved over the course of the exhibit. The exhibition/residency format provided an opportunity to work closely with each participating musician in a truly collaborative way. The project enabled new software explorations, including different methods of mapping sound with color, and linking sounds to spatial gestures. It also included experiments with a Yamaha Disklavier (courtesy of Yamaha Piano); an acoustic grand piano that uses optical sensors on each key to output live midi data.
